Originally from Olympia, WA, Melanie Tafejian holds an MFA in Poetry from North Carolina State University where she won the 2020 North Carolina State Poetry Contest. Over the years she has worked as a university instructor of academic writing, an oyster shucker, a fresh juice presser, a farmhand, and a fryer of falafel. From 2016-2018 Melanie served as a reproductive health educator with the Peace Corps in Albania. She was a finalist for the 2019 Cutthroat Joy Harjo Poetry Award and won second place in the William Mathews Poetry Contest judged by Ilya Kaminsky. She has poetry and reviews in, or forthcoming in, Poetry Northwest, Asheville Poetry Review, Raleigh Review, and The Kenyon Review.
