Melanie Tafejian was born and raised in Olympia, WA. She holds an MFA in Poetry from North Carolina State University where she won the 2020 North Carolina State Poetry Contest. Over the years she has worked as an instructor of academic writing, an oyster shucker, a sexual health educator, a fresh juice presser, and a farmhand. She was a finalist for the 2019 Cutthroat Joy Harjo Poetry Award and won second place in the William Matthews Poetry Contest judged by Ilya Kaminsky. She has been nominated for Best New Poets and has work in or forthcoming in Poetry Northwest, Willow Springs, The Los Angeles Review, Asheville Poetry Review, Raleigh Review, and The Kenyon Review. She currently works as a ghostwriter and lives in Raleigh, North Carolina.
